7 years 1 month Sisterlocks Anniversary

My day to day grind requires this partial updo.  At seven years and one month, I don't need a separate barrette.

Playing with semi- permanent haircolor (direct dye)

I don't trust my Sisterlocks with any type of permanent haircolor. Luckily, I don't have a lot gray hairs for my age. The safest color absorbs into my hair just fine.

The longer my Sisterlocks get; I do see the tension at the roots when they are wet or if I am sitting back on them.

Deep Red: Gray Coverage on Relaxed Hair

Healthy Hair by Benita Blocker

Pictured is a Paul Mitchell relaxer service followed by Design Essentials Colaura Semi-Permanent hair color in Passion/Deep Red color.

The client was already reddish copper in  hair color with gray and white hair present as well. I had to apply hair color to the whole head from root to tip to make sure of even color distribution.  I used a brush application.  I conditioned the hair before applying this color because I performed a same day relaxer service.

I did not mix anything with this color.  I used 90% of the new 4 ounce bottle on one medium length, thick head of hair.  Areas of the client's hair that was more 100% gray/white, it had a little "flame" to it, but it was not bad at all.  As long as the hair is not parted in the slightly "flaming" area, then it all blended nicely with the styling.

Nairobi Tru Colors has a New Shade!

Nairobi Tru Colors, a semi-permanent color line, added a Bombshell Dark Brown color #3-D to their collection.  It has a neutral base and reminds me of a milk chocolate color.

I prefer when this color line is thick versus runny.  I have had a distributor sell me color with a runny consistency, and I discontinued using the line because of this inconsistency.  The distributor later mentioned that I should let him know if I prefer the thicker consistency over the runny one - that way, he can pull it for me.

In my head, I am thinking - really? There should be some sort of quality control. There should be some sort of consistency in how the product should be.  Why sell hairstylists inferior products because they do not know  how thick or thin the product should be to achieve optimum results with their clients?

Anyway, the size of the Tru Colors bottle allows you to get several uses out of it so I prefer to buy the blue/black/Indigo color from Nairobi.  I do not have many clients who want the blue/black color, but it is the best option for semi-permanent hair color for those clients who do.

Product Review: Straight Request Power K77 Cleansing Conditioner

Straight Request Power K77 Cleansing Conditioner initially reminded me of the Wen's product that you see in the infomercials.  Not necessarily by smell nor product consistency, but by it's description sounding more like a "co-wash."  I consider co-washing to mean skipping over the shampoo process and washing hair with a conditioner.

Of course, all hair types can get a build up and eventually needs a deep cleansing shampoo at least once every 7 co-washes. Notice that I did not mention a timeframe because some people co-wash everyday and some people co-wash a couple of times a week.
I initially was not fond of the Power K77 Cleansing Conditioner because it did not clean the hair as much as I would like it to, and I have higher quality shampoos that condition without the weight. However, I felt that there had to be a good use for this cleansing conditioner, then Viola- I discovered the best use for it as for as my beauty practice goes.

In the picture above, you see various semi-permanent haircolors.  You do not mix anything with these colors. They are direct dyes or stains that you apply straight from the bottle.  Typically, you rinse these semi-permanent haircolors out after 30 minutes under heat and either condition or use leave-in conditioners. Shampooing usually starts stripping the direct dye back out, but often times, without a shampoo, the excess dye changes the color of the rinse water and is a bit messy.

So the Power K77 Cleansing  Conditioner cleanses the excess direct dye out of the hair and conditions at the same time. A perfect compromise.

Another added benefit of the Straight Request Power k77 cleansing conditioner is for glued weft/tracks removal.  As described in the directions pictured above,  work the Power k77 through the tracks and wait a few minutes for the tracks to loosen up to be removed.  The liquid consistency of the Power K77 should make application to glued hair extensions easier than a regular creamy conditioner.

Just as with all products for bonding glue removal, some hair types, removal is easier than others.

Overall, the Power K77 Cleansing Conditioner is a keeper for use with Semi-permanent haircolors!
