One Month Anniversary with my Yarn Unit

Wow!  It's been one month since my yarn unit invention, and I am totally addicted.  I absolutely love it!  The joy that I feel and the heads that turn have been amazing.  People are totally drawn to it.  It is totally different.  I am loving how it lays on my clothes.  It does not tangle.  It is lightweight. It is simple.  It is simply amazing.

When people first look at me, they see long locks of hair, but if their eyes start digging into the roots then they can see that I have two different textures going on, but overall, as long as I keep my locks hydrated enough to blend, it is a "green" light.

With my short locks, everyone kept saying "they are growing."  I heard this over and over again.  But with the yarn extension unit, the responses were more like "I like your new hairdo." I say that I made it myself, and they love it!  Hey! What's a girl to do?  Smile.  Anyway,  this unit is worth $400, and I would like for people to stick with the same brand of yarn that is working for me.  I will direct them to a special yarn website to see if they can find the color of their hair in order to send me the yarn to make the unit.

For those who just do not have the facial shape to support a really short locks look, this unit is for you!

For those with traditional locks, you would have to find yarn that complements your size locks as well as a color match.

Please support my business and empower yourself during your short locks phase!

Yarn Braid Extensions: Caution when wet!

One of my clients just came back from Nigeria (Africa), and she saw a LOT of yarn braid extensions in all different colors.  I introduced yarn braid extensions in a previous blog article under the name of  "genie locs."

I also just washed my yarn extension unit, and I realized that the yarn soaks up a LOT of water.  Luckily, I can wash the unit without it being on my head, but it went from being weightless in my hands to feeling like a gallon of water.   I was amazed at how the yarn sucked up water like a sponge and retained it.  Wow!  I literally had to wring my yarn unit out as much as I could, and it was still extremely wet.  I could not imagine going swimming with yarn extensions in my hair without seeing some breakage later from the water weight of them.

I literally was amazed to discover what seemed like a lightweight hair fix could be devastating when wet and attached to actual hair.  I recommend caution when choosing the genie locs service for any extended period of time.

Yarn Hair Extensions Unit

Yarn Hair Extension Unit handmade by Benita Blocker. Inspired by clients and blog readers.  So one of my clients mentions . .. . maybe you can develop a "clip-in" locks hairpiece.  Then one of my readers mentions the "desire" to skip over the "short locks" phase. Okay.  Yes, I got the hint!!! There is an obvious market for this unit!  I individually hand-tied the yarn myself. I could not find anything else on the Internet like it! The price is $400 US dollars. Free shipping and handling in the United States.
Partial updos are the most practical way of wearing this yarn unit, but Free style is an option as well.

So you are okay with the price?  Let me tell you more about the unit:
1) It is individually hand tied.
2) It is locks friendly. ( No attachment to the actual locks and great support system to get past the short locks phase.)
3) The unit uses an ouchless headband and is similar to a "hair fall."
4) It is easily removable.  Off at night and Easy on in the morning. You can sleep in it too!
5) It is wind friendly.  (It blows nicely in the wind, and it feels secure on the head.)
6) It is resusable.  ( Yarn can be replaced by you very easily.  One purchase from me, and you are set with the knowledge to recreate.)
7) The yarn extension unit is NOT heavy. (However, the acrylic yarn can be hot on the head. Ideal for the cold weather.)
8) It is a "ready to wear" unit with a materials list included to recreate your own units in the future.
9) It is more natural looking than a costume dredlock wig from a "costume" website.
10) Black yarn is my standard color for this unit, but if someone can find acrylic yarn that matches their haircolor, then they can send the yarn (170 yards/156 meters) along with full payment in order to receive a custom made unit.
11) I do request that the construction of this unit remain a secret, but once you buy from me, you can resell the technology of making it as your own business idea.

February 2013 update:  Scunci spring-free hair clips as pictured is included while supplies last!

Credit card orders must have the same shipping address as what is assigned to your charge card.  Please contact Applebaum Salon, Huntersville, NC USA to purchase.  Thank you for your support of my business, my blog, and my desire to advance the hair industry.  Locs and Blessings!!!!

July 2011 Hair Trend Update

So are you curious as to what is trending right now as far as hair is concerned?

1) Hairdrenalin Potion - it has become an international trend! This potion is supposed to grow your hair at a rate of one inch per month. That is double the normal growth rate. People can order the potion or make it themselves based on the online recipe. Some people are adding extra essential oils to mask the "original" smell of the potion. I am wary of anything that accelerate growth like that. There are youtube videos showing people achieving longer lengths at exceptional growth rates. You are welcome to research more about it, but I am going to wait another year to re-visit this potion. There has to be a side affect.

2)Genie Locs are yarn braids. The recommended brand of yarn is Redheart acrylic yarn. The yarn looks like ethnic hair. It gives you an overall "lock" look. The yarn runs about $5, and an online tutorial explains how to perform the "yarn twists" services at home. Enjoy researching!

3)Feather extensions - I have been getting one phone call a week at my salon from teenagers calling to see if we offer the Feather hair extensions. It seems to be a youthful trend. They are extensions that are pre-tipped for infusion and contain a feather. Maximum amount of feather extensions to sport seem to be about five at a time.

Well, that's all for now! Again, Enjoy!!!
