Revolutionary Relaxer Service News 2016

Relaxer Touch-up tips for Growing Long, Relaxed Hair:

  • Blot the hair dry
  • Lift the client's head completely up from the shampoo bowl
  • Visually, check the nape and hairline areas for relaxer residue
  • Check neck of the shampoo bowl for relaxer residue
  • Use a color indicator solution to take the guesswork out of alkalinity
  • Check the neck towel for signs of alkalinity
  • Shampoo several times if needed
  • Never condition before shampooing when neutralizing
  • NOTE:  Squeaky clean hair does not mean the relaxer residue is completely washed away.
  • Make sure multiple shampooing does not dry out the hair.
  • Use conditioning neutralizing solutions. (Two products are mentioned in this youTube video.)
This video shows akaline water tests.  Porous hair should have as much water removed as possible before the final neutralizing shampoo is completed.

The Natural Look: Day 2 is a Charm

This is my Day 2 look! I slept on a satin pillow cover. I woke up and used Mixed Chicks Leave-in Conditioner to calm the sides and back down. The top remains untouched. I can get a week out of this look. My volume remains in place on top just by finger styling daily.
This my Day 1 look. My hair is a little flat for me. It is freshly hydrated. It has not fully swollen nor fully dried out. The drying effect gives me a "little afro" control. Some volume is always good for styling purposes. The volume comes naturally by the second day without any styling aids. Also, please remember that my hair is texturized; this is a regimen that is working for me.

It's humorous because those with oily scalps love first day hair but by Day 2 the hair starts going flat from the natural oils from the scalp. Luckily, product lines such as Rene Furterer have dry shampoos that do wonders for creating volume in Day 2 old hair with oily scalps.

UPDATE: This is Day 5 (five) hair! Exceptional! Maintenance: I shower without a shower cap so only nape and sides get a little damp . . . then follow with Mixed Chicks Leave-in conditioner. "Finger fluff" and go! The KeraCare Defining Custard softens up daily. Only the first two days is my hair a little firm.

Healthy, relaxed Type 4 hair, curlied!

My client of 1 year 10 months is a Type 4 curl pattern. We relaxed around every 8 weeks. No hair color. She does not use hot irons at home. Typically, she gets her hair wet set with double strand twists. When it is closer to relaxer time, we blow-dry and hot curl! Hair by Benita Blocker

My client of 1 year 10 months does not like to disturb the curls. So how they fall . . . they fall! Just shine spray, holding spray, and go! Hair by Benita Blocker

Long, Healthy, RELAXED Type 4 hair!

This client of 1 year 11 months has Type 4 hair that we relax every 7 to 12 weeks. She does not hot iron/flat iron nor shampoo at home. She was a weekly client for at least a year; then became a bi-weekly client with the economy change. Hair by Benita Blocker
My client of 1 yr 11 mos did receive a hot oil treatment with this blow-dry/style visit. She will wrap and maintain moisture level of her hair at home until she makes it back into the salon. Hair by Benita Blocker. What time is it? It's time to grow your hair!
