AppleBaum Hair Growth Club 2020 Update

When you are ready to grow a new head of hair- "Who you gonna call?"

Benita Blocker with Applebaum Hair Growth Club is still educating and providing phenomenal hair care services.

I softly introduced my premium consultations last year (2019). I also had to take a hiatus to heal from a lot of trauma that I had not dealt with in decades. I also had to comply with government shutdowns due to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.

Well, all of this stress from the economy being shutdown, is definitely going to create some hair loss challenges by the Holidays. As a single woman, I am definitely about "my bag," but I am dedicated to restoring your hair and confidence for the right price.

Now, your consultation includes several Herbalife supplements including probiotics, Vitamin C support and more. No shakes are included; so no worries about dairy concerns.

Your consultation also includes at least two Colorproof haircare products.

Hollywood Hairstylist: Benita Blocker

Virtual or In person, I have over 15 years in hair care, loc care, and product knowledge. I believe in diversity. All lives matter.

You can purchase the initial consultation at https://www.etsy.com/shop/ApplebaumStudio  Look for Hair Growth Club Consultation.

Or if you are not ready to purchase online, please feel free to contact me by FREE registration at my Herbalife website so that I can make sure your shipping information is accurate. www.getset.goherbalife.com

Then on my follow-up with you, we will discuss the consultation fee and payment options unrelated to Herbalife. (Herbalife requires documentation to who is using their products). Your registration saves me extra paperwork.

Thank you in advance.  You will also get other supplements shipped from various brands according to individual needs.

At your service soon . . . ~Benita

Alopecia and Doctor Visits Co-pays

Pictured above is Alopecia Areata.  It is categorized by a bald patch or patches - big or small in any area of the head or body.  It can be seen in children at any age as well as adults.  Apparently, one's own body or genetics can trigger it, and it may disappear on its own later.

My reason for writing this article is because people globally are experiencing "balding" or "thinning" and they are running to the dermatologist paying expensive co-pays just to be told "you have alopecia."

Well, excuse me, alopecia means "hair loss."  Who needs to pay a specialist $50 for five minutes of precious time just to be told "you have hair loss." Patients can see that they have hair loss which is why they came in- remember?  The question is why do they have hair loss?

Unfortunately, in most cases, the specialist can only guess and prescribe some topical treatment.  For many patients, the doctor visit feels like a "waste of money and time."

First of all, I suggest people make sure that the bald patch is NOT a ringworm.  If it is not a parasite, then alopecia can be triggered by traction such as
  1. wearing a baseball cap or hat too much,
  2. braids that look good, but are too heavy for the person's fine hair
  3. headbands with teeth that irritate the scalp as it moves or
  4. wigs or hairpieces with comb attachment that irritate the scalp as it moves.
Other alopecia can be caused by
  1. stress,
  2. allergic reactions to a chemical or a hairdressing,
  3. post-pregnancy or
  4. possibly an imbalanced diet such as the Atkins Diet for months past what is recommended.

People really should try to eliminate all possible causes of hair loss.  It can save you a co-pay.

Also, there used to be a shot that can administered to the bald patch and a hard thump to get the circulation going in the area . . .  I was told about this by a friend, but it was a solution over 20 years ago.  It may be a lost "solution" that did not get past down.  I don't know, but I had a friend that swore by it.

On a separate note, dermatologists are good for diagnosing scalp and skin conditions such as

  1. eczema
  2. psoriasis
  3. dermatitis
  4. dandruff and so on.
As for a custom hair maintenance regimen that is separate from scalp disorders, a cosmetologist who is well experienced with various different hair types and races can better recommend shampoos and conditioners to deliver the style that you are looking for.

Iron Deficiency and Hair Loss

It has been documented on such websites as http://en.allexperts.com/q/Hair-Loss-1012/telogen-effluvium-duration.htm that iron deficiency can cause telogen-effluvium or hair loss.  I wrote an article in March 2011 on this blog about how stress and trauma can cause telogen effluvium as well.  Please see my article on Hair loss due to stress.

According to the website listed above, your iron storage level needs to get above "70" for the hair to regrow.

Other websites have mentioned Vitamin C assists with iron absorption; yet, drinking tea can interfere with iron absorption.

Red meats and organ meats are supposed to be good sources of iron.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggest a standard adult dose of 50 to 60 mg of iron, two times per day for the treatment of anemia.

Feeling cold all the time can be a sign of iron deficiency.

Relaxer Comparisons: Type 3 hair versus Type 4 hair

The relaxer chart pictured was designed by hairstylist Benita Blocker based on her experience with relaxer services.

If you read straight down the column for Type 3 hair, then you will find that the relaxation process is safe and relatively painless. In addition, Type 3 hair can wait from 8 weeks to even six months between relaxer touch-ups.

If you read straight down the column for Type 4 hair, then you will find that the relaxation process is unpredictable, challenging, and has a high potential for scalp damage as some point with continued abuse. On top of all the potential challenges, type 4 hair typically need a touch-up every six weeks just to keep from breaking because of the extreme difference in the wiry new growth compared to the previously straightened hair.

Hopefully, this chart gives everyone the same perspective about hair loss issues amongst coarser and kinkier hair types.

Telogen effluvium: Hair Loss due to stress

Watching the price of gasoline rise almost double or triple what they used to be is stressful. The added expense is unexpected in a already tight budget.

Also, in light of the unfolding disasters in Japan (earthquake, tsunami, nuclear radiation exposure), many people will be under tremendous stress. This stress can cause temporary hair loss. It may not show immediately, but in a few months down the road after the events of the initial stressful situation is over, it may seem like it is overnight or instanteously.

According to http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/1071566-overview:

Telogen effluvium is a form of nonscarring alopecia characterized by diffuse hair shedding, often with an acute onset. A chronic form with a more insidious onset and a longer duration also exists.1,2 Telogen effluvium is a reactive process caused by a metabolic or hormonal stress or by medications. Generally, recovery is spontaneous and occurs within 6 months.

The condition often looks like a "pattern baldness." Notice the circular pattern of thinness in the picture.

Pictured is the same head two months prior to "stress alopecia."

However, within six months after onset of "stress alopecia," recovery is possible by eliminating as much stress as possible. All three pictures are of the same head. Before and after alopecia due to stress.

Please feel free to research more on Telogen effluvium. With unemployment rates rising, gasoline prices rising, and the economy still uncertain, we have to also focus on "wellness" in order to balance the stressors.

NOTE: Picture of gasoline prices are updated periodically in this article to reflect the rising costs on a monthly basis.
