Sisterlocks At 4 years 8 months

Yeah baby!  July 2017 will mark my five years Sisterlocks anniversary.  I can hardly believe five years is almost here.  What a long loc journey!

Anyway, I am at 4 years and 8 months.  I had someone ask me if I used the "Hot water and perm rods" dipping technique to get these curls and waves in my locs.

Really?

Shampoo, condition, setting lotion, pipe cleaners, roll the Sisterlocks up, and sit under the platform dryer for about 2 hours.  It is real hair NOT braid extensions. Hair education is important!

Pipe cleaner Wet Set on Sisterlocks.

Day 2 with Pipecleaner curly set plus Ardell eyelash extensions.

Day one pipecleaner curly set!

Initial Pipe cleaner removal results!

I purchased brown and black colored "Fuzzy Sticks" from Walmart for 88 cents. ($0.88 USD)

I put loops into the "Fuzzy Sticks" to drag them out of the spiral curls without disturbing the set too much.

I pre-made about 3 packs to spiral set my hair with.

This article was inspired by LovelyLocs NHCP (Natural Hair Care Products) Curling Sisterlocks with Pipecleaners Tutorial.   The "fuzzy sticks" tutorial starts about six (6) minutes into this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZGkqpYq_aA

Loc Styling: The Making of Mardi Gras Masquerade Hair

It was Mardi Gras time again for The Crown Jewels (NC) chapter of the Links, Inc. I decided to wear my locs down this year!  It required advance planning to make my curly locs blend in with my straight hair "sistahs."

I even picked out the perfect jewelry ensemble from my collection of rhinestone head jewelry.  I introduced the concept of Fashion Head jewelry in an article on this blog during the 2015 Holiday season.

I started with a fresh wet set using perm rods for more curl definition about four days prior to the event.  I twisted slices of my locs like the start of Bantu knots and then anchored them with a perm rods.  I used the Design Essentials Masterpiece setting lotion 1:1 mixture.

This Aldo cap became my new "bestie!" I took out all the perm rods and coiled the front top Sisterlocks to stay under my cap while the side and back hung down with minimal to no manipulation for three days up to the hour before the event.  My clients had probably never seen me working in a cap, but I was determined to have curls for my event.

It was the best decision ever!
I was a Goddess!

3 Years Six Months Loc-versary Curly Edition

My Sisterlocks lined up with my eyelashes giving me the illusion of lash extensions. Hmmm. I may consider experimenting!

Taking down my Bantu knots a few at a time!

Half way to final styling!

Viola! Three years and six months!

The Curly Look at Two Years Two Months

So I decided to give myself a perm rod wet set using the new Lottabody Ready to use Setting Lotion and very small perm rods.

I am about nine days short of my official Loc-versary, but I am not sure if I am going to change anything up between now and then.  I still like my little lightweight headbands that I mentioned in one of my more recent articles on this blog.  Although, I am not wearing any headbands nor hair accessories in these pictures.

All the volume is mine produced from my new growth and curlied locs.

I decided that the Lottabody setting lotion is not one that I will use again because the new formula delivers too soft of a hold.  When you want hold, you really want a firmer set.

By the way, the Dollar Tree stores have chenille stems a.k.a  pipe cleaners.  So there is NO excuse not  to find a way to curl your locs!

By the way, I am wearing my MAC PeachTwist blush powder color.  I am sooo excited to find a secondary cheek color!  Loving it!
