So just when I determined that the Trader Joe's brand of 99% pure aloe vera gel was the best. I find out that Trader Joe's only carries their aloe vera gel seasonally. So doing the winter months, you are out of luck.
So I made it to The Vitamin Shoppe store to find a 99% Aloe Vera Gel by Mill Creek Botanicals as pictured above. I love this one just as well as the Trader Joe's version.
It is Fragrance Free, Paraben Free, Glycol Free, and pH Balanced. In addition, the expiration dates are clearly marked on the packaging. The Vitamin Shoppe says that it carries this gel all year long. Yes!
This aloe vera gel is great for "wash and go" hair styling regardless of race.
Do you just twist with the gel on dry hair? I have 8 month old micro braidlocs and I wonder if twisting would hold up with me washing my hair 3 times a week after sweating at the gym. My hair is thin and sparse, and I think twisting would be less scalpy looking than interlocking would
ReplyDeleteGale: You are correct. This aloe vera gel is wet enough to twist the hair dry, and twisting will allow a less scalpy look. However, shampooing 3 times a week is going to undo any twisting. Interlocking will be best for those who wet their locks that often. The frequency of shampooing may be the source of your scalpy look. Using astringent after sweating may be healthier for your locks than shampooing 3 times a week. Keep me posted.
DeleteActually, my hair is filing in nicely, when I started I looked like a plucked chicken. I've always had very thin hair, in fact, that is what kept me from getting locs, but after 8 months, I'm seeing much improvement, I also just started taking biotin. After a cycling class my hair is so wet, I might as well wash it. I have micro braidlocs and I'm careful not to interlock too often or too tight
ReplyDeleteI hear ya. Consider rinsing with just water or possibly lathering once with a cleansing conditioner versus a regular shampoo. However, if your regimen is working, then no use in trying to fix anything that is not broken. Thanks again for the follow-up.
