Carnival Win: Rasta Stuffed Banana

This is my Rasta Stuffed Banana that I won as a result of a horrible guess at my weight.

My weight was to be guessed Within 3 pounds . . .  He was over by seventy (70) pounds.
Could he had at least guessed 70 pounds lighter????
Wow!  Talking about hurt feelings!!! Laughing out Loud.

Anyway, the 2015 Charlotte Fair had helicopter rides and acrobats.

These guys even walked the tightrope.  It was a very suspenseful show.
They had magic shows too.

The petting zoo had water buffalo, cattle, goats, sheep, pot belly pigs, and more.
Handwashing was strongly encouraged after petting animals.
I decided not to take any chances not even on the sheep.

They had plenty of carnival rides, ferris wheel, roller coaster, swings, etc.  I just did not take pictures of the rides.  Also, they had elephant ears, funnel cake, turkey legs, beef brisket, pizza, and more.
It was fun for all ages!!!!

This article was fluffy, but rest assured that I have more serious hair articles coming down the pipeline. Just having a little fun!!
Stay tuned.

May 2015 Honorable Mentions

I still have a lot more to discuss than what is in this article, but I needed to start somewhere so here it is!  This article is the honorable mentions to keep you updated on such things as the My Honey Child brand changing their labelling as well as increasing the size of the Sophia's Old Fashioned Hair Grease.  Please see another article on this blog for the old packaging and size.

I bought this newest Tropical Roots product at the Taliah Waajid's World Natural Hair Show. Jamaican Black Castor Oil. The Tropical Roots line is about double in size now. All the components are definitely starting to show up the East Coast stores.  Remember, I originally brought this line back from my So Cal trip earlier this year 2015.

More Good news:  the Clairol Advanced Gray Solution now comes in warmer undertones.  In their initial offering, only ash undertones were available which sometimes bleed green on lighter colored ends.  I am so happy for the new Expresso Bean and Rich Walnut colors!!!!

Back from the World Natural Hair Show, the Magic Twist sponge. It was a fraction of cost of the original Nu Dred sponge, and according to reviews, it works, but they say this sponge is not as durable as the NuDred sponge is.

I am ready to try it out on some short natural hair.  The barber shops do benefit the most from this "sponge rub" styling.

I have been loving this Shea Moisture Professional Vibrant Color Conditioner.  It is great aromatherapy.  The hair smells fresh,  and the whole salon smells sweeter  with each use. I wished that I had tried the conditioner before attending the Natural Hair Show.  I could have stocked up!!!

The Flipped Mesh Roller Set

Hair by Benita Blocker

Can you tell that it is a wet set?  We used the red mesh rollers, Nairobi Foam and rolled the hair upward to create flatter roots.  The length of the hair falls down  leaving the body in the ends.  My client left with her upside down curls pincurled up, and she styled it the next day at home.

She gets the Paul Mitchell relaxer every 7 to 8 weeks.  She also gets regular trims every few months. She gets limited to NO hot ironing.

My last haircutting class inspired this flip roller set.  The artist used a hot iron in the class, but I had forgotten that I used to offer this wet set some years ago.  I believe that many "blowout" salons start with the flip set then round brush it out.

An old idea, but a great memory refresh!

Star Struck at the 18th Annual World Natural Hair Show

Aevin Dugas is known for having the world's largest afro.

April from vh1's Sorority Sister TV show came out to support the event.  She was not scheduled for any appearances, but I recognized her walking around, and she graciously agreed to take a picture with me.  I absolutely loved her on the Sorority Sister TV show.  She was the best dressed; had the best hair; smart, lively, theatrical, and one of the classiest divas of the show. I just loved her!!!!

22" of natural hair weave by Curl Genetics.  Their longest length is 28 inches. The black hair is the model's own natural hair.  The brown color is the weave.  The company's focus is on texture.

Design Essentials

Taliah Waajid looked awesome in red.  I did not get a picture of her,
but this was my first show attended of hers and I just loved it!!!!  I also had a lady to recognize me from my youTube liquid Chalk Tutorial.  I felt like a little celebrity.
A great day trip indeed!

Color Addict Alert: New Color Scheme for 2015

OMG!  I could not wait to color my hair again!  So here's my new custom color look.
Color placement by Benita Blocker.

Side swept with some Jamaican Mango and Lime Island Oil.
I needed a moderate weight oil to balance all the clarifying shampoo that I used to get the other color out.

I attempted to pre-blend the liquid chalk colors, but they did not mix well.  So I colored small pieces at a time.

I got the color bug; however, I am using
no bleach, no hot irons, no henna, and no relaxers.
Of course, I am trying to justify why it is okay for me to be a haircolor addict.

Before the new color scheme, I wet set my locs with Design Essentials Honey.
This is my 33 months loc-versary.
Will I ever go back to black?
