What about the Wave Nouveau?

As you may guess, there are a lot of people transitioning out of chemicals and transitioning into chemicals. So what about the Wave Nouveau by Soft Sheen Carson? It is a "thio" soft curl procedure that is not compatible with relaxer services. One would have to choose between one or the other. So if you have virgin hair, then you could 1) lock it 2) relax it 3) "soft curl" process it or 4) continue the natural journey.

I decided to revisit the thought of a Wave Nouveau because I remember how beautiful another friend-girl hair was with the Wave Nouveau. It was long, wavy, and thick looking. I called her up to talk to her about when she used to have the Wave Nouveau, and I realized that her curl pattern is looser than mine. She is wearing her hair natural now and loves the low maintenance of it.

I even went to our local beauty supply store (Sally's Beauty Supply) and checked out the Wave Nouveau line. It had the typical 3 piece "soft curl" components: 1) thio relaxer 2) processing lotion and 3) neutralizing lotion. All the "soft curls" name their components different names such as "shape release" or "re-arranger."

I read reviews on the Wave Nouveau product. I think that for the kinkier hair people; the "shape releaser" may cause scalp sensitivity and may take longer to soften coarser hair. Therefore by the time you complete the whole Wave Nouveau process, kinkier hair will have processed much longer than someone with a type 3 curl pattern. So type 4 curl patterns may find their hair to be prone to dryness, frizz, and tangling.

Oh well, scratch that option for type 4 overcurly hair! It was just a thought . . .

  1. I just noticed in Sally's Beauty Supply that the Wave Nouveau "shape releaser" comes in two strengths. One is normal/medium. The other is coarse/resistant.

  2. I also discovered a fine/colored-treated "shape releaser" by Wave Nouveau. So there are THREE strengths available. The beauty supply store across from University of NC at Charlotte carries all three strengths. (near CitiTrends)

  3. Hey lady, I just wanted to speak on the Wave Noveau. Did you ever try it? I tried a thing with the Wave Noveau and I never seen any videos on anyone doing this process.....call me a dare devil. Your post on another lady’s page is the first one I have seen. I researched the brand and I did an experiment on a test piece of my hair. I concluded this: why does one have to use the step 1 to get your hair straight and then totally redefine and make new curls when you can enhance the curls your already have. So I did just that. I used my natural hair and I just skipped step 1 and just went straight to step 2 on my natural hair. I put it on my hair and did two strand twist then I proceeded with step 3 the neutralizer. Worst case scenario “I always wanted to shave my head” lol. I figured what is the worst thing that could happen, you are literally reducing 2 chemical processes to just 1. I did this process on Sunday 13 Dec 20 and it has been 11 days. My curl definition looks amazing and so far no hair shedding. My hair is not wavy like people who do the whole process. It doesn’t look like a Jheri curl either. Also my hair does not look or feel like hair after a texturizer ( I tried that back in 2009 and hated it. Hair would tangle and strands would be a lot of different textures. I had lots of breakage) My curls are literally softer, looser, still thick, with way less maintenance. Washing my hair is amazing and a quick process. I will have to give it about 3 months to really see how it’s doing, but so far no complaints. Just a disclaimer, I’m not saying for anyone to do this, I just wanted to experiment and was curious. I did buy all the tools and supplies to apply it to my hair safely, but I did do it myself. I was natural for 7 years and I wanted to try something new. I don’t know how I came up with this or even struck up the nerve to actually do it, but the deed is done.

    1. Thank you for sharing. The straightening step is mainly for coily and/or resistant hair.

    2. I haven’t seen anyone who has just started with step 2. I really wanted to see someone who had did it, before I did. All the people I saw have always done step 1 first, but that makes since what you said.
